Accident Insurance

How accident insurance works

It’s very simple: suppose you have some kind of accident and are injured and you incur medical expenses due to the accident. You do not have to notify Allstate accident about it right away. Take care of yourself first. Then, later, you simply provide a claim form to Allstate with receipts of covered expenses, and Allstate sends you a check for the covered expense.

Is There Any Kind of “in-network” or “out-of-network” List of Health Care Providers, like some Health Insurance?

No. That system does not exist for Allstate Accident Insurance.

When I apply do I need a physical?

No. You simply answer a few questions on a two page application (extra info may be required if you have some medical history).

Are the Rates Different for Smoker and Non-Smoker?

No. The rates are the same.

Are the Rates Different for Bikers and Non-Bikers?

No. The rates are the same.

What is Not Covered?

The following accidents are not covered: self-inflicted injuries; accidents while involved in a crime; driving while drunk; driving in any organized or scheduled race or speed test or while testing an automobile or any vehicle on any racetrack or speedway; and a dependent child practicing or playing organized football.

How Long has This Insurance Been Around?

This policy has been offered by Allstate since 1998. Before that it was offered by American Heritage Life insurance of Florida since 1980 (American Heritage Life insurance was founded in 1958, and was acquired by Allstate in 1998).

Does this insurance work everywhere in the United States?

Yes!

If you have a claim, and checks are sent to you, is there any restriction on what you do with the money?

No. The benefits are paid directly to you (unless you assign them to the doctor or hospital). The money is yours so spend any way you like.

If You are Disabled and Can’t Work, does this Policy Provide Any Disability Income?

Yes. This Accident Disability Income (DI) Insurance is not intended to replace all your income, but when you can’t work, anything helps. Plus, you may also have DI from your job. This Supplement DI Insurance can keep the lights on, keep food on the table. And, by keeping up with the bills, it can help protect your credit! For specifics, see the chart below. In one thread on Google, a motorcyclist who suffered an accident wrote, “A VERY short period of no income coupled with the extremely high cost of emergency health care can devastate a family”.

Is there a Benefit for Preventative Doctors Visits that have nothing to do with an Accident?

Yes. “Wellness Benefit” the policy actually does also pay a benefit for preventative doctor visit, such as physicals, mammograms, Pap smears, eye, and dental exams, prostate-specific antigen tests, and others. This can be paid up to twice per year (this benefit not available for the Silver plan). For Gold benefit is $25/ visit for Platinum, $50/ visit. You can EVEN get the benefit paid for chiropractor visits!

ACCIDENT POLICY BENEFITS SUMMARY

What Medical Expenses Are Covered by this Accident Insurance?

The Accident Insurance is available in three “Levels of Coverage” to choose from: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Of the three, the Silver is the least coverage and costs the least. Platinum is the most coverage and costs the most of the three. Gold is in the middle.

Below is a summary of the coverages. I’ve tried to make it as complete as possible. The summary is comprehensive but of course, the actual policy language dictates the coverage. Many of the benefits are the same for each “Level of Coverage”. In those cases, you’ll see the exact same dollar amount in all three columns. I’ve taken the information from the main brochure, and organized it in a table below into four categories which I think will make the coverages easier to understand. They are:

  1. Benefits Used at the time of the accident (usually within the first 24 hours);

  2. Benefits occurred later after the accident.

  3. Benefits if Surgery is needed;

  4. Benefits in the “Worst Case” Scenarios (those we really hope never happens, but the policy DOES pay for these circumstances):

Summary:

People buy this insurance for soccer, baseball, bicycling or their work. Some buy it who are not involved in any sports-related activity. Many people who buy it do so for activities or lifestyles that do not involve the risk that you and I take on when we choose to ride a motorcycle. Therefore, you and I are far more likely to benefit from this insurance than most.

Some people would say its not a question of if you will go down, it’s a question of when. Even the best rider among us could be in an accident due entirely to the mistake of another driver, or a deer jumps out in front of you. You could buy this policy for five years without an accident. Then easily make all your money back with one motorcycle accident.

We all hope we don’t need it. Many of us are accustomed to buying other insurance we hope we never use (life insurance for example). But, just in case an accident ever happens, you will be glad you planned ahead and got Accident Insurance.

Lets Get Started!

Send me a PM on TWT, or call my office at 512.836.1231. I will call you and ask some questions; then I will mail or fax you the application for your signature. You then sign the application and mail it back to me with a check for the first month, or you can pay in full for the entire year. The check is payable to Allstate Accident Insurance. If you have questions, call me or email me .
